ICA is pleased to present a limited edition by Viviane Sassen produced to accompany her solo exhibition at the ICA (3 February - 12 April 2015), Justus Blue is a photograph from the Pikin Slee series of 2013.

Works from this series reflect Sassen’s unique experiences of the Saramacca tribe’s life in the Surinamese rainforest. Sassen's photographs explore a complicated chain of history between the ancestors of the Saramacca and the Netherlands, and reflects on her life-long documentation of the African continent.

Born in 1972, Viviane Sassen lives and works in Amsterdam. Sassen found early success as avant-garde fashion photographer: her work is now critically acclaimed in both fashion and contemporary art circles. She received the Prix de Rome in 2007, exhibited in the annual New Photography exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and won the International Center of Photography Infinity Award for Applied/Fashion/Advertising Photography.
