Marc Camille Chaimowicz established himself in the 1970s with his evocative installations and performances. His installations have often included the artist’s photographs and his prototypes for fabrics, wallpaper and ceramics, as well as found objects and artworks by others. His work combines a sensitivity to the personal and the everyday with a highly developed sense of theatre and lifestyle.
Chaimowicz’ edition for the ICA revisits a work entitled Here and There (1978), which comprises a group of decorated panels and painted boards, upon which are mounted photographs featuring everyday and domestic details. The print features a patterned background that echoes the artist’s own green and yellow kitchen, onto which photographic images of shop fronts have been collaged.
Chaimowicz was born in post-war Paris and lives and works in London. The artist is currently exhibiting at Artists Space in New York and has a major solo show opening at Secession, Vienna in November 2009. Marc Camille Chaimowicz showed in the ICA exhibition The Secret Public in 2007.
Part of the ICA Print Portfolio 2009.
