A Q&A with Tomita Katsuya accompanies the UK Premiere of his latest film.
Shown during Critic’s Week at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival, Tenzo addresses the post-Fukushima social crisis in Japan. Chiken, the film’s protagonist, is a Buddhist monk who attempts to alleviate the suffering of people in his community by providing vital help and support from his temple in Yamanashi. Meanwhile, his old friend Ryugyo, whose temple was wrecked by the tsunami in Fukushima, lives in a temporary shelter and helps clean up the debris as a construction worker.
