PREVIEW Of Fish and Foe + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Of Fish and Foe, dirs. Andy Heathcote & Heike Bachelier, UK 2018, 91 min., English, Cert. 12A

The fraught relationship between traditional fishing practices in Scotland and the concerns of environmentalists is unpacked in this controversial documentary.

Brothers Kevin and John Pullar are continuing their family’s tradition of net fishing wild Atlantic salmon along the Scottish coastline. Eco-activist groups Sea Shepherd and Hunt Saboteurs are opposed to the practice and doggedly pursue the brothers, forcefully urging them to discontinue.

Filmmakers Heike Bachelier and Andy Heathcote are careful to provide an impartial insight into the groups' opposing ideologies while raising difficult questions around the ideas of heritage and tradition.
