O Horizon + introduction
Institute of Contemporary Arts
O Horizon, dir. Otolith Group, UK 2018, 90 min., English and Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit, Mandarin with English subtitles

This screening is introduced by writer and historian Partha Mitter.

From the Otolith Group, O Horizon (2018) is part of a long-standing research project into the educational philosophies of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore.

Filmed in Visva-Bharati, a school founded by Tagore in Santiniketan, West Bengal, this filmic mediation focuses on the school’s material production, philosophy and practice, reflecting its conception as a living educational laboratory. A series of essayistic portraits reflect upon modernist theories of art, nature, craft, and radical pedagogy as developed by Tagore, whose life and thought informed the building of this unique institution.
Presented with the support of CHASE Doctoral Training Programme and LUX Artists’ Moving Image
