The ICA will be on general strike on Fri 20 Oct. Read more
An evening of events including a new spoken-word performance by artist Nora Turato exploring the possibilities and contradictions of language and a screening of Marianna Simnett’s new film The Bird Game, a hellish tale of childhood and transformation.
Turato’s practice is informed by language systems and the slippages that occur through reinterpretation and association. The artist’s new performance merges performance art and contemporary music, fusing fragments of advertising slogans, everyday conversations, literature and social media posts.
Marianna Simnett is a London-based artist challenging how bodies are perceived and imagined. Her new film The Bird Game (2019) is a wicked fairy tale in which a loquacious and bloodthirsty crow, voiced by Joanne Whalley, lures six children to a secluded mansion and snares them in a sequence of deranged games.
This event is programmed as part of Image Behaviour, the ICA’s annual convening dedicated to experiments in artists’ moving image, considering the intersectional, cross-disciplinary possibilities of the medium.
