Members’ Screening: Zero Patience in 35mm
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Zero Patience, dir. John Greyson, Canada 1994, 96 min., English, 18

From the ICA’s film archives, discover a curated selection of cult classics and rare finds in original format 35mm as part of the ICA Cinema’s monthly Members’ Screenings.

John Greyson’s subversive and sassy cult musical about the man who supposedly brought AIDS to North America remains a jewel in the New Queer Cinema crown, refuting the urban legend of how HIV was introduced to the continent.

Victorian sexologist and traveller Sir Richard Burton (John Robinson) has somehow survived into the 20th century and is now a taxidermist at a natural history museum. As he prepares a ‘Patient Zero’ exhibit, designed to lay the blame for the AIDS epidemic at the feet of Zero (Normand Fauteux), Zero himself returns to Earth to haunt Burton.
