Mektoub, My Love, dir. Abdellatif Kechiche, France 2017, 182 min., French with English subtitles

The latest from the director of Blue Is the Warmest Colour is an exuberant coming-of-age saga that casts a nostalgic glow on the pleasures of youth. Set in 1994, the film follows Amin (Shaïn Boumedine), an aspiring screenwriter living in Paris, who has returned home to a fishing village in the south of France for the summer to reconnect with his family and childhood friends. Together with his cousin Tony (Salim Kechiouche) and his best friend Ophélie (Ophélie Bau), Amin spends his time between the Tunisian restaurant run by his parents, and the local bars and beaches, finding a hedonistic sense of fulfilment as he navigates love and sex.
