Ladyworld, dir. Amanda Kramer, US 2018, 94 min., English
A birthday party quickly dissolves into chaos when an earthquake traps eight teenage girls alone in an isolated mansion. Left to fend for themselves without access to water or electricity, the girls vote the pragmatic Olivia as their leader, who attempts to establish a sense of order in the house. Soon, however, rising tensions and paranoia within the group test their friendships, identities, and eventually, their grip on reality.
Cerebral and forceful, Amanda Kramer’s second feature is a stylised psychological thriller featuring an impressive ensemble cast of mostly unknown actors.
