Interrogating the iconography of queer culture, collaborators Hannah Quinlan and Rosie Hastings draw upon sound, moving image and the live event in this immersive performance that forms part of their ongoing project Hope, Joy, Youth, Peace, Rest, Life, Dust, Ashes, Waste, Want, Ruin, Despair, Madness, Death, Cunning, Folly, Words, Wigs, Rags, Sheepskin, Plunder, Precedent, Jargon, Gammon, and Spinach.
Continuing their ongoing collaboration with singer-songwriter Jesse Hultberg, dancer Ted Rogers and musicians Severin Black, Owen Pratt and Milo McKinnon, Quinlan and Hastings transform the ICA Theatre into a live environment that riffs on the tensions between queer subcultures and the commercialisation of the gay mainstream.
This event is programmed as part of Image Behaviour, the ICA’s annual convening dedicated to experiments in artists’ moving image, considering the intersectional, cross-disciplinary possibilities of the medium.
