Goodbye CP
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Goodbye CP, dir. Kazuo Hara, Japan 1972, 82 min., Japanese with English subtitles

Kazuo Hara’s debut documentary from 1972 follows a group of adults living with cerebral palsy who struggle with the privations inflicted upon them by an indifferent society.

At the time of its release, Goodbye CP became renowned for its unvarnished representation of the daily lives of its subjects. Featuring candid (and at times confrontational) interviews, Goodbye CP unapologetically confronts many difficult themes which are often pushed to the sidelines.
