Fire Will Come + Q&A
Institute of Contemporary Arts
Fire Will Come, dir. Oliver Laxe, Spain / France / Luxembourg 2019, 85 min., Galician with English subtitles

This screening is followed by a Q&A with director Oliver Laxe, hosted by film journalist, critic and writer Ian Haydn Smith.

Director Oliver Laxe (Mimosas) returns with this raw yet ravishing sensory experience, which won the Un Certain Regard Jury Prize at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.

When Amador (Amador Arias) is released from two years in prison after starting a succession of fires, nobody is eagerly awaiting his return. Moving back home to a small village in rural Galicia to live with his elderly mother (Benedicta Sánchez), he keeps to himself and doesn’t speak much to his neighbours. But when a fire begins to devastate the region, his fellow villagers are quick to point the finger.
