Diego Maradona, dir. Asif Kapadia, United Kingdom 2019, 125 min., English and Spanish with English subtitles

An immersive documentary portrait of monolithic football legend Maradona, constructed from over 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from Maradona’s personal archive. Compiling home videos, news footage and interviews, the film follows the triumphant early years of Maradona’s career in Naples and traces his equally epic decline as he succumbs to the trappings of fame and fortune.

This is the third film from British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, the Academy Award and BAFTA-winning director of Amy (2015) and Senna (2010)
