Baloji: The Future Is Ours
Institute of Contemporary Arts
ZOMBIES, dir. Baloji, The Democratic Republic of Congo 2019, 15 min.

Using Moustapha Alassane’s newly restored animation Samba le Grand (1977) as a springboard, Baloji curates a programme of short films exploring experimentation in contemporary African cinema. Hallmarks of Alassane’s work can be found in the puppetry of Nelson Makengo and oral storytelling of Angèle Diabang Brener, culminating in Philbert Aimé Mbabazi Sharangabo’s tender poetry and Baloji’s own mini-epic Zombies.
