40 Days to Learn Film is the latest of Mark Cousins’ visual essays, which immerses the viewer into the different aesthetics of film, with his unique passionate and knowledgeable approach.

New York’s historical home for experimental artists and composers The Kitchen is one of the ICA’s kindred spirits, presenting work and thought that muddies the boundaries between music, dance, film, literature, theatre and art. Their new online performance series streams this evening, hosting artists direct from their house to yours, and continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm EST / 10pm GMT. Tonight’s promises experimental turntablism from Peruvian sound artist Maria Chavez.

This text by Jackie Wang explores the concept of oceanic feeling as a radical reorientation towards the world. Arguing that the oceanic can be a point of departure to new socialities and political models that do not rely on discrete selves. The text relies on performance studies and black studies, and on Fred Moten’s discussion of blackness and paraontology. Wang’s work describes oceanic experiences as sometimes involuntary, but that they can also be created through methods of meditation, psychedelics, participating in riots, sleep-deprivation, BDSM play, emotional pain and grief, exercise, music and experiences of collective euphoria, amongst other activities, that push the threshold of a state of consciousness.

This open-access online journal asks for contributions to a special issue on feminist research and creative responses to COVID-19. The editors welcome a variety of submissions – from accessible academic works to more personal reflections and video responses – on topics such as, for example, the shift from in-person to online ‘events’ and inclusivity and accessibility issues in relation to the online culture during COVID-19.
