From 18 – 24 May, Habibi Collective and ShakoMako present an online short film festival of contemporary queer films from the Middle East and North Africa. The works explore queer identity, sexuality and other aspects of LGBTQ+ experience in the MENA region and among its diaspora, including narratives of ‘coming out’, cross-dressing, religious oppression, cultural performance and polyamory.

Watch choreographer Ligia Lewis perform in Melodrama (a study for ‘Water Will (in Melody)’, part of HAU Berlin’s online programme on YouTube. Water Will (in Melody) (2018) is the final part of Lewis’s trilogy of works, following Sorrow Swag (2014) and minor matter (2016).

Today sees the release of a covers project by Sega Bodega and friends, with profits going to AIM Covid-19 Crisis Fund. The fund offers support to contractors and freelance workers in the independent music industry. It features physically distanced recording sessions by Dorian Electra and Lapsley.

Our friends at Moscow’s VAC Foundation have come up with something akin to our ICA Daily. Updated every Wednesday (Sreda = Wednesday), this online magazine offers an interesting view on Russian contemporary art and culture. The first issue considers ‘art as an infection’ following Tolstoy’s 1897 essay ‘What is Art?’ (1897), and includes a podcast with theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov. For now it is only available for a limited period of time.

The Gate arts centre is home to experimental improv group Jamaica!!, who performed at the ICA last year alongside Sly and the Family Drone. A West London arts project for adults with learning disabilities, The Gate are fundraising to provide their artists with materials that will enable them to continue their work remotely during lockdown – support here.

The Artists’ Collecting Society is offering the chance to win £4,500 towards the cost of an artist’s studio in the UK. The prize is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students studying Fine Art and other creative courses. Applicants who completed a course in the last four years are also encouraged to apply. The deadline is 30 June.
