This dark, complex and suspenseful story traces the 30-year history of the Japanese Red Army (JRA), a radical collective that declared war on the Japanese state in the late 1960s, while questioning the very ability of film to portray and influence reality.
Shot on Super 8mm by artist and filmmaker Éric Baudelaire (Un Film Dramatique), the film uses panoramas of contemporary Tokyo and Beirut with archival footage, TV clips and film excerpts as backdrops for the voices and memories of May Shigenobu, Beirut-born daughter of the exiled JRA leader, and Masao Adachi, a fellow JRA member who fled the country in the 1970s. The pair speak of everyday existences in hiding and exile, of politics and cinema, and of their extraordinary stories and overlapping lives in Lebanon and Japan.
