PREVIEW The Lighthouse
Institute of Contemporary Arts
The Lighthouse, dir. Roger Eggers, USA / Canada 2019, 109 min., English, 15

Leaving Canada behind for the unforgiving terrains of the New England coast, Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson) arrives at the begrimed lighthouse where he will work for the next four weeks. Greeted with hostility by Tom Wake (Willem Dafoe), a veteran seafarer with whom he is obliged to share close quarters, the pair quickly establish a volatile dynamic, with Tom the baiting slave-driver and Ephraim his battered lackey.

From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror classic The Witch, comes this hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.
